Studio Calico February Kit

Studio Calico’s kits just keep getting better! February’s kit is full of unique embellishments from stickers, wooden pink stars and a small stamp set. The cards this month future a good mix of patterned cards and simple cards! The one thing I really love about this months kit is that there is a lot of seasonal elements, perfect for making a valentine’s day layout!

In the next few days ill be sharing more layouts from my 2017 album, which will feature my trip to London and also my Valentines day page in which ill be using a few products from this months kit!

Fitness #1 Setting my self a fitness goal

This has to be the first time in my life were I have ever set myself a fitness goal, but recently iv felt like I need to make a change! My fitness level has increased since I started my new job, I walk over 7 & 8 mile a day, when we last visited London we walked 11 miles! So I know I can do it, I just need to add those miles to my ever day routine.

My goal is to RUN, Im going to get myself fit enough to Run the Disney half Marathon!

Ok so I know what your thinking it’s a pretty big goal, but I’m not expecting it to be easy and it’s definitely going to take time and a lot of hard work but I really need to do is! Being fit isn’t just a fad to me I know this will make my life better , I’ll feel better and look better! This isn’t just to run a marathon, I want it to be a lifestyle change!

What has made me want to set myself a fitness goal… Well I have started fasting, I have regulated how many hours of the day I can eat, Instead of eating from the first hour I wake up and snacking late into the night, I now wait till around 10 or 11 am to eat and give myself a 8 or 9 hour window to eat. Once that time is over I then stop till the following day.  Within the fasting time I can eat whatever I like – within reason, and after that time I drink water.

Fasting has given me so much more energy, I’m sleeping better and I’m waking up refreshed and ready for the day. This has made want to work out.

My 2017 approach to Project Life

This past year iv been using the Project Life system to document all the trips, holiday’s and family weekend’s of 2016. Project life is the easiest way to document. The pages I have created this year are my favourite pages iv ever created!

Changers ~ My 2017 approach is the same one iv used this year but with a few changes. I’m going to still document monthly and I’m still going document trips, weekend’s and holidays but I want to start documenting more of my everyday. I want to document more photos of me and my parter cooking, baking, I want my album to be more personal!

Journaling ~ I’m also going to add more journaling to my pocket pages. I find it hard to write what I’m thinking. But when I was looking though this years album I was thinking what if someone was looking though it and I wasnt sitting next to them guiding them though, what would they think? They wouldn’t know the stories behind the photos, they wouldnt know my thoughts. So my aim is to journal, just a few sentences of what happening, my thoughts at the time or something funny that happened!

Album size – this is something I’m nervous about! This year iv been working in a 9×6 Studio Calico Album and iv loved it. But the quality of the album is know where near the quality of the Becky Higgins albums iv seen. So in 2017 I’m going to try 12 x 12!!! I’m still going to add in 9×6 page protectors as I have hundreds of them to use up! But most of the layouts will be 12 x 12. So this mean more pocket’s to fill!!

Key Changes

  • Album size
  • To add more jornaling,
  • To make my albums more personal

Whats your Project life 2017 approach? Are you making any big changers or have you found your favourite way of documenting the year?  Let me know in the comments below as this will be my second year I’m still a beginner and I’m still trying to find my way, so all your ideas are welcome!

Spaghetti Alla Carbonara

Happy Friday! Last night I made this recipe for my partner, carbonara is one of his favourites and iv been on the hunt for a perfect recipe. There is so many different variations of this classic bacon-egg sauce and I think iv found my favourite!

This recipe is so simple with only a few ingredients and is so fast you will be eating in about 20 minutes!

Spaghetti Carbonara

Serves 4 ~ prep time 10 minutes ~ Cooking time 10

  • Dried pasta or fresh  ~400g Spaghetti
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 120g pancetta
  • 3 medium egg yolks, free rang or organic
  • 200ml single cream
  • 75g parmesan freshly grated
  • Salt and pepper

Cook the pasta in a large pan of salted boiling water until al dente. About 5 minutes before it’s 5 minutes its ready start the sauce.

Heat the oil in large frying pan over a high heat. When hot, lower the heat and fry the pancetta for 2 to 3 minutes, until it starts to crisp up. Turn off the heat but leave on the stove to keep warm.

Mean While in a small bowl, light beat the egg yolk with the cream, parmesan and a generous amount of black pepper.

Drain the pasta and add to the frying pan with the pancetta. Pour over the egg and cream mixture and stir until well combined. Do not turn the heat back on. The hot pasta will warm the cause.

Serve with a generous creating of parmesan and more black pepper.

I can’t take the credit for this recipe, it’s from the cook book Simply Italian by the Chaippa Sisters.
